A University of Portland basketball player is suing the University of Oregon, men s basketball coach Dana Altman and members of his staff for alleged negligence stemming from a 2015 recruiting visit that ended with an injury.

Crisshawn Clark, a 6 foot 4 guard who transferred to Portland from Pitt this spring, claims that an ACL injury suffered while working out for the Ducks in 2015 happened during a period when it was against NCAA rules to be working him out.

The lawsuit https://www.uobasketballjersey.com/evan-gross-jersey-c-9.html, filed Monday in Multnomah County Circuit Court, seeks at least 100,000 for pain and suffering along with loss of future income due to the knee injury.

When reached for comment, Oregon athletic department spokesman Jimmy Stanton said the university won t comment on pending litigation, but will certainly fight against this claim in court.

According to the lawsuit, Oregon offered Clark a full scholarship in October 2015 while Clark was a sophomore at Canada College, a junior college in San Mateo Payton Pritchard Jersey, California. Clark was invited to Eugene for an official visit and the lawsuit claims that during the visit, Oregon assistant coach Kevin McKenna instructed fellow assistant Mike Mennenga to put Clark through a workout.

Mennenga worked out Clark after an Oregon practice, the lawsuit says, and put the player through a series of drills, including one where he was instructed to drive and finish at the rim while working through contact from Mennenga.

On what was to be Clark s last shot, the lawsuit alleges that contact from Mennenga threw Clark off balance, causing him to land awkwardly and tear the ACL in his left knee, which he had previously had repaired in April 2015 following a partial tear.

Although the lawsuit states that the university did pay for the surgery to repair Clark s ACL after the Eugene workout, it claims that Oregon shouldn t have been working him out due to NCAA rules.

The lawsuit cites NCAA bylaw 13.11.2.1, which states that on campus evaluations can only happen after the conclusion of the prospective student athlete s season and he or she has exhausted his or her two year college eligibility in basketball.

U of O violated the aforementioned NCAA Bylaw by putting Mr. Clark through an evaluative workout prior to the exhaustion of his two year eligibility in basketball, as well as after U of O s opening day of classes for its term https://www.uobasketballjersey.com/paul-white-jersey-c-8.html, the lawsuit states. All or part of Mr. Clark s medical and rehabilitation expenses related to the October 17, 2015 left knee injury were paid by or on behalf of the U of O; however, Mr. Clark suffered significant other damages in connection with the October 17, 2015 left knee injury for which he is entitled to and should receive compensation.

Altman, McKenna, Mennenga, assistant coach Tony Stubblefield and director of basketball operations Josh Jamieson are named in the lawsuit.

Clark, who played high school basketball in Ohio, was the 2015 Nor Cal freshman of the year after averaging 15 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.0 assists as a freshman at Canada. He missed his entire sophomore season following the injury at Oregon before signing with Pittsburgh. Clark never played a game at Pitt. He missed the entire 2016 17 season after tearing the MCL and meniscus in his left knee during a non contact drill in practice https://www.uobasketballjersey.com/dillon-brooks-jersey-c-10.html, the Pittsburgh Post Gazette reported.

Clark announced in April that he would transfer to Portland, where he ll sit out the 2017 18 season due to NCAA transfer rules.
